Malibu Barbie.
In class today we watched the Simpson's about Malibu Barbie and how Lisa disagreed with how women are portrayed in Malibu Barbie. When Lisa and he family went to the Toy store all the little girls were knocking over the shelves to get the new Barbie that just came out. Lisa joining in the crowd with all the other little girls bought her Malibu Stacey Doll. The doll is perfect all around perfect hair, nice clothes that are in the color of pink, and high heel shoes. While playing with the doll Lisa is awaiting to hear what Stacey has to to say about things. Pulling the dolls string back she says "Lets buy makeup to look pretty for boys" " Or boys are smarter hehehehhe". This goes against everything the character lisa believes in so she is determined to make a stance. Dolls like that should definetly be taken off the shelves, that are belittling the minds of women. I think that we should take a deeper look at what the toys are trying to tell our children and is that really the image we want to show our girls. Overall this show made me take a closer look at how America forces our kids to supply to the norm of what girls and boy should act like and dress like with really no originality.

I totally agree with your point of view.
ReplyDeleteAmerica doesn't even try to have a good influence over women; Or they just don't what to.
I think in a way America had a vision/image in their mind that men are suppose to be domaniant in all fields:strength, brains, and work& for the women: cook, clean, and make/take care of babies. I suggest that this is how America's thinking-of diffrences b/w men and women-was when we were first founded. As for today's day& age we still carry it on in a more discreet way. Which is disappointing.
I agree that is today’s society, young girl are pressured to look a certain way, by the way the media portrays Barbie. That I want to grow up and be like Barbie. She’s pretty, all the guys like her, she’s popular, and the list goes on. And, in my opinion that is a horrible message that these youngsters should be receiving. I think it horrible that they grow up hoping to be like a hard, plastic doll, instead of looking up to all the great things women have accomplished today. Like their mothers and aunts and teachers and doctors, I don’t think even Barbie can live up to them. These advertising companies should not be putting this little girls, even in a position of that’s the way the perfect, dainty grown woman is. If anything these advertising companies should be trying to help uplift the ideas and opinions of these little girls, not confine them to what they should be like. Let our little female generation have a say in what they do.
