The Difference Between Men and Women

The article "The Difference Between Men and Women" shows how a man and woman interpret the silence between them after the woman says that they've been dating for six months. The guy starts thinking about the last time he took his car to get an oil change, and the girl thinks she made the guy angry. She looks at his discontent face contorting into an angry look, and thinks these emotions were brought up by what she said when in reality he was just angry about how the guys at the car repair shop were going to con him into paying a ton of money for an oil change (or something like that). She starts thinking that she angered him and starts to think that he doesn't want to be rejected by her and that she's just being too idealistic with her girlish fantasies about knights on white horses. She tells the guy "I know there is no horse and all", and the guy is thinking "Did she ever have a horse?" The girl spends the night thinking about the ordeal and the guy spends the night watching a basketball game.
This was a very humorous piece about how men and women perceive things differently. Women tend to take things more seriously and think about them more. Men are somewhat shallow and kind of stupid and don't care too much about stuff. At least, that's what this piece is saying. I somewhat disagree. I don't think that most women would think so deeply about something to that degree and I don't think most men are that shallow. I also think that after six months of dating a man and woman would be able to talk about how they feel toward each other to each other. Other than that, I think that it was a fun piece to read.

  1. In this comical piece by Dave Barry, he shows how the male and female minds work and perceive different things. How women tend to over think and analyze a situation or a statement. While, man focus on the topic at hand for a brief second, and eventually end up wandering off onto when the last time my oil was changed or how the lions won a game after so many consecutive losses. He showed another detail about the way the male and female cognitive processes. In the way he wrote his essay, meaning, when he would use dialogue between Fred and Martha. Whenever Martha would speak, her statements were long and drawn-out, but Fred on the other hand, responses were short and choppy. By using this method in his writing, he compared how women tend to over think and mean usually says the first, and maybe even the second thought that may pop into their heads. I believe as a writer, Barry can share his view or opinion in a way that wouldn’t hurt or offend someone else’s beliefs.

  3. I couldnt have enjoyed this piece of writing anymore than the first time I read it in class. This article really does explain the mindset of Men versus Women. We analyze every move made in the relationship by men, but we have no idea there thought process. It seems a thought calling our FEMALE friends would help when in actuality it only gives anothe womens perspective on a males response. This article made me realize how important it is to just relax and not assume things on the opposite sex because you never really know whats on their minds.
In the car Martha felt like she read every little detail to Freds face to the Tee then burst out crying on assumtion that he was mad at her, when really all he was focus on was getting his car in the shop to get a oil change. Fred could have all along wanted a relationship and probably was just as confused as Martha but the communication there failed. Barry displayed that in his article about the poor communication between women and men. I feel every women and man should read this article and really take out that overall women and men really are different!...

  4. "Women tend to take things more seriously and think about them more."..this quote is so true. Women exaggerate, and make something that was so simple turn into something personal against them, lol...i do that ALL the time. We think men think this way too..but they are so simple minded and oblivious. This was a humorous piece because it was sooo true.i agree with this writting for sure.
